چکیده

An enzyme is present in extracts of rabbit alveolar macrophage which can catalyze the reaction of creatine phosphate with adenosine diphosphate to form adenosine triphosphate and creatine. The enzyme is moderately activated by reduced glutathione, has a pH optimum between pH 6.5 and 7.0, and shows an absolute requirement for Mg(2+). The K(m) for creatine phosphate is approximately 3.6 mm while the K(m) for adenosine diphosphate is about 1.1 mm. The enzyme may play a role in the energy balance of the cell by creating a reserve of energy in the form of creatine phosphate.

Depressed myocardial creatine phosphokinase activity following experimental myocardial infarction in rabbit.

Since creatine phosphokinase (CPK) is found predominantly in myocardial and skeletal muscle cells, in contrast to cells participating in the inflammatory response, it was considered likely that measurement of activity of this enzyme in the heart would provide a sensitive and relatively specific index of the extent of ischemic injury following acute coronary artery occlusion. Accordingly, CPK ac...

Compartmentation of mitochondrial creatine phosphokinase. I. Direct demonstration of compartmentation with the use of labeled precursors.

Mitochondrial creatine kinase was first proposed to act as a functional component in respiratory control in 1966 (Bessman, S. P., and Fonyo, A. (1966) Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 22, 597-602). Since that time, evidence has accumulated to support the theory of a creatine-phosphorylcreatine shuttle mechanism involved in supplying energy for aerobic muscle contraction (Bessman, S. P., and Geige...

Serum Levels of Creatine Phosphokinase.

Increasing interest in serum enzyme levels in various conditions has led to recognition of the value of the estimation of creatine phosphokinase activity in muscular disorders. Interpretation of the results obtained has been hampered by the lack of adequate information about the ;normal range'. Data for the normal levels of creatine phosphokinase in cord blood, children, and adults are presented.

THE ROLE OF ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES IN THE PRODUCTION OF COLONY –STIMULATING FACTOR BY THE LUNG

The role of alveolar macrophages in the production of granulocyte/ macrophage colony-stimulating factor(s) by the rat lung was investigated. Lavaged lungs, when incubated at proper weight per volume of culture medium, produced the same amount of colony-stimulating factor as unlavaged ones. Both lavaged and unlavaged lungs produced similar types of colony-stimulating factor (s). Prolonged i...
